To
verify that your personal firewall provides the
best in class Internet security
software, try YALTA.
You should also test your Internet
security with other
famous leak test softwares.

YALTA
allows to send UDP data packets to any
configurable IP address, at any configurable
port.
Using YALTA, you will see how trojan
programs try to transmit data from your
computer to the Internet and check if your
personal firewall detects them.
There are
two ways to send a UDP data packet with YALTA
- The
Classical Leak Test button uses standard sockets access.
- The Enhanced Leak Test button uses
a more direct access which is very
stressful for personal firewalls
Using YALTA is very
easy:
- Download yalta.zip
- Unzip yalta.zip in any folder
(yalta.zip contains two
files: yalta.exe and yalta.vxd)
- Launch yalta.exe
- Enter the IP
address of the computer to which the
text shall be sent.
- Enter the port
number. Typical selections
for tests are:
- 21 (standard test below 1024)
- 53 (this port is open for Windows
internal)
- 67 (this port is open for
Windows
internal)
- 1030 (test in range 1024-5000)
- 5555 (test over 5000)
Enter a text to send. This is useful if you want to track
the packet content locally or on the target IP.
Press "Classical
Leak Test" or
"Enhanced Leak Test"
Note: "Enhanced Leak Test" may be unavailable on some
configurations.
The test pass if
- The
YALTA
status bar reports an error while sending,
or
- Your personal firewall tells you that YALTA
is trying to
access the Internet and asks your
authorization for it.
Important:
If YALTA reports
the status "Message
sent successfully", it does not
mean that the test is passed. Only the two
previous assertions are reliable to declare
the test as passed. This is due to the fact
that YALTA
is a very simple program that has no way to
know if the packet he sends is really
received.
The test fails if
-
Your personal firewall does not require your
authorization for YALTA
to access the Internet or
- The PC with the target IP address has detected a packet coming
from the PC running YALTA.
YALTA
and does not provide
any warranties of any
kind. The user must assume
the entire risk of using YALTA. Do not use
it if you do not
accept these conditions. This
program is only for demonstration and
educational purpose. It reproduces
in a visible way what troyan programs may
perform in an hidden way. The
application has been tested on Win95/98/Me.
Win2000/Xp is currently not supported for "Enhanced
Leak Test".
For the Enhanced Leak Test,
YALTA
uses a vxd.
If you are
afraid of that, unzip only yalta.exe
and the Enhanced Leak Test will not be
available.
